A Woman's Birthday

A Woman's Birthday

This Saturday, the 19th will be Lady Nakia Wright’s birthday. However, the birthday celebrations for her started last Saturday with the A Woman’s Voice event held at the Country Club at Woodmore. It was a fantastic event that included the favorite activities of Lady Nakia, eating, shopping, laughing, dancing, encouragement and taking pictures. From the time I saw the announcement, I knew a good time was certain.

Upon arrival, guests were welcomed with a gift bag and a printed card to fill in with a secret dream. Then celebrity radio host, Renee Starlynn Allen, greeted guests on the red carpet while celebrity photographer Bill Hart snapped photos. Excitement was in the atmosphere. After the red carpet treatment guests were able to enjoy a tasty buffet and passed hors d’oeuvres.  Many guests were beyond content to shop the pop-up boutiques such as Hush Boutique and Wink & Pout.  Added bonus, we were able to receive tips and suggestions from the owners of the boutiques.

Evie Johnson and Earlisa Larry (Lady Nakia’s cousin), owners of E&E Hair Studio, were the emcees for the program. They entertained us as they kept things on time. After they introduced the fabulous birthday girl, Lady Nakia Wright, she preceded to give gifts to others. I was surprised when she presented flower bouquets to her friends who are pastor’s wives. Wait a minute, I thought this is your birthday. We brought gifts for you. Lady Nakia’s gift giving continued and she made more presentations.

The signal event of the day was the panel for A Woman’s Voice. I believe everyone in the room was inspired to hear from the three beautiful God fearing and God Loving entrepreneurs, April Daniels, Tamara Lee and Kym Lee. It was a time of honesty as all three women were transparent as they shared from their personal experiences on how they achieved and measured success.

Following the panel, Lady Wright introduced her parents, her children and her husband, Bishop Donald A. Wright. In the Bishops’s remarks, he challenged his wife to consider, after the day’s festivities, what comes next.  He committed himself to usher her and A Woman’s Voice to its fulfillment. Listening to the Bishop, the way he spoke, it was obvious we were hearing unmistakable words of love from a husband to his wife.

After we sang Happy Birthday, Elder Diahann Smith prayed for us. She interceded on behalf of our dreams, aspirations and the balloons soon to be released in a stir it up prayer. On the patio, Lady Nakia gave the countdown and the balloons took flight. There were tears and hugs, we smiled and laughed. Then the beat dropped, time to dance. Though the event may have been to celebrate Nakia Wright’s birthday, I am a witness that the guests left feeling celebrated.
